 Aconcagua's Polish Glacier Route  ACONCAGUA

6965m

STANDARD ROUTE

OVERVIEW

Mark the start of the new year by achieving the summit of one of the worlds highest mountains. At 6965m high, Argentinian giant, Aconcagua is not only the highest mountain in the southern hemisphere, it is also the 2nd highest of the famous "Seven Continental Summits". Second only to Mt Everest (Asia's highest), Aconcagua is relatively easy to climb and has been described as the worlds highest trekking peak by its normal route.

We will make our ascent of Aconcagua via the normal route - itself not technical, it is however a continually interesting route from a base in the Hercones Valley. The route will require the use of crampons and ice axes and we may use a small amount of fixed rope should conditions demand it. Some seasons find the route snow free, other times the difficulties are increased by snow and ice. We will establish a number of camps up the route culminating in our high camp which we expect to site at an altitude of 6600m. This camp will be our launch point for summit bids.
