EXPEDITION OVERVIEW We Climb Lobuche, Pokhalde & Island Peaks in this fast moving Climbing Expedition to the Khumbu region of Nepal one of the most spectacular regions in the Himalaya. Set in the spectacular surroundings a short distance from Mt Everest, these peaks are some of the more accessible 6000 metre peaks currently available to groups. The mountains are graded as moderate/difficult to climb i.e. requires the use of ropes, crampons and ice axe, but is within the capabilities of most fit climbers. The group will be led by an experienced British Himalayan guide, assisted by high altitude sherpas, and a guide of the Nepalese Mountaineering Association. This is our 10th year operating this trip, we know it well! This expedition takes participants through one of the most continuously interesting areas of the Himalaya. It is an ideal trip for a first taste of Himalayan Climbing. It is also a good choice for people on a tight schedule as the duration is 30 days with approximately 25 days trekking and/or climbing.. Dates - 12th November - 8th December 2002 No of Days - 26 Cost - £1465.00 Kathmandu to Kathmandu * - click here for Dollar, Euro or Swiss Franc prices *Our trips no longer include international flights as our clients come from all over the world and the internet has made available very cheap flights. Flight to Lukla. We save many days of walking by flying to & from Lukla at 3000 meters. Lukla is a small STOL (Short Take Off & Landing) airfield close to our mountains. The flight is "interesting" to say the least and probably one of the most spectacular flights in the world. From then on seldom is the daily walk more than 8 or 9 miles, utilising traditional stopping points for acclimatisation and sightseeing. Our base camps will be situated at altitudes of about 5000m. We will establish our various high camps on each mountain whilst acclimatising. The Climbs. Lobuche Peak is technically the more difficult to climb giving one or two relatively short, steep sections on the ridge before culminating in a knife edged summit ridge. Island Peak is relatively straightforward giving a climb of about Scottish grade II. One section close to the summit sometimes requires fixed ropes but generally we climb free. Pokalde is straitforward, and largely a rock and snow scramble. In order to minimise our impact on the local environment, we travel as a self contained group . Additionally, our cooks use only kerosene for cooking and all rubbish is disposed on the waste disposal sites set up by the local government. Grading. Suitable for climbers competent on Scottish grade 1/2 or Alpine PD. Strenuous. You can phone or E Mail us NOW for full info pack! or.. |
