"THE JEWEL OF THE TIEN SHAN"
KHAN TENGRI 7010m
| August 2002 will see Adventure Extreme once more in the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan close to the border with China for 7000 metre high Khan Tengri. Our ascent will be made via the south side of the mountain from a Base Camp on the south Inilchek glacier. |
Expedition Overview
The expedition will utilise a pre-prepared Base Camp that has been established by our local agent, ITMC Tien Shan. They will also be reponsible for facilitating our Helicopter transportation to and from the mountain. Once the team are acclimatised to the altitude we will climb the 6 or so miles up to the "Shubin Bivouac" and then on to the site for Camp 1 under the West Ridge (5700m). Once sufficient equipment and food has been ferried to Camp 1, the team will establish Camp 2 at an altitude of 6300-6400 metres. Finally, a high Camp will be set up at 6700m prior to our summit bid. We will depart for the summit in the early hours in order to enable us to withdraw all the way to Camp 2 directly from the summit.

Grading
This trip would be suitable for experienced climbers competent on Scottish grade 3 (winter) or alpine Difficile. As this mountain is at high altitude, we recommend that people wishing to take part should have a high degree of fitness and motivation.
